In memory of Peter Ward… one of the good ones
I just wanted to post this up in memory of Peter Ward who I had the pleasure of knowing for a few years. An absolute gentleman and one of the nicest fellas I have ever met and that is no exaggeration. I don’t think I ever saw him not smiling, well perhaps when Palace lost maybe.
It is no surprise that Luke, Peters son, is the man he is today having a father like that to look up to.
RIP Peter from me and all of your fellow football fans at Selhurst Park.

Romance of a Wet Wedding Day

Wet Weddings in the UK
Finally, after much debate and discussion over the coffee table, your wedding date is fixed and you are super excited about getting dolled up for your happiest day! Before you get too excited, however, have you cross-checked the weather forecast for the day? Will it be sunny? Or is it going to be a wet day? The weather can be fickle in London and surrounding areas, especially during summers, when it can rain cats and dogs on some really wet days. So, it makes sense to be prepared for a wet wedding day if the forecast predicts so.
If you always wanted the Sun to shine and shower its blessings on your momentous day, don’t fret over a wet wedding day ‘coz the romance of wedding on a rainy day can be equally memorable, if not more. When you have all the contingency plans for a wet wedding in place, rest assured that you won’t just have a romantic wedding, but romance will be in the air too!
It’s in such challenging situations where the true skills and mettle of a wedding photographer come to the fore. Your wedding photographer should be sufficiently trained and equipped to tackle all the exigencies that could be anticipated on a wedding day. For instance, familiarity with the venue plays a vital role in such situations. An experienced UK wedding photographer will know the alternative indoor location, which will be ideal for different set of shoots; thus, saving you from last minute embarrassment of trying to locate alternate sheltered locations.
Your photographer should be qualified enough to know how to preserve his equipment from damage in the rains Though the modern photographic equipment does not break down on minor wetting, yet the wedding photographer must take ample precautions to prevent potential damage, lest it runs
the risk of having a wedding without any photographic memories.
A professional wedding photographer in the UK will always have at least two spare chic umbrellas in his car for groom and the bride, in case it rains on the wedding day. However, this doesn’t mean that you can simply rely on those two umbrellas to sail through the event. Remember, not all guests will be carrying their umbrellas to the venue.
So, the first thing to do is to arrange for plenty of spare umbrellas that can be placed in a bucket outside the door of the venue, or you can utilise the services of ushers to facilitate easy supply of umbrellas to any guest in need. While selecting the umbrellas, make sure that they complement the overall colour scheme of your wedding venue.
After catering for the guests, it’s your turn to prepare well for a wet wedding day. Start with buying a big umbrella to walk from the car to the venue. A complementing large umbrella will not just prevent your make-up and dress; it’ll also enhance the look and feel of the photographs. Shoes and footwear is another casualty when it pelts hard from the sky. It won’t be a bad idea to wear trainers to walk from the car to the venue, and then changing to your formal footwear.
A wet wedding day is an opportunity to welcome the rain as your guest from heaven who is especially there to bless you with all its watery pearls!
Why not get in contact to discuss your wedding day plans with an all weather experienced wedding photographer.
Gomes Photography becomes a member of the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (AG|WPJA)
I am delighted to announce that Gomes Photography has successfully become a member of the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (AG|WPJA). A premier body comprising of selected international wedding photojournalists who have shown remarkable professionalism by capturing unscripted wedding events. AG|WPJA recognises the special talent in the field of post-production image processing, which only a few wedding photojournalists in the world possess.
It is an honour to be accepted as a member of this prestigious organisation, due to their stringent screening measures. The AG|WPJA standards and guidelines ensure that the members maintain the same levels of creativity and originality throughout the term of their membership. This means that I have to remain updated with the latest trends in wedding photojournalism and equip myself with the necessary skills that contribute to enhancing my creativity.
AG|WPJA does not encourage wedding photojournalists with specialisation in portraits and details. In other words, AG|WPJA recognises the skills and expertise required to aesthetically capture a live event, like wedding, without compromising on the image quality.
The members of AG|WPJA are masters in skillfully enlivening their work in post production processing. For them, taking wedding photographs is only half the job done. The important task is to enhance and manipulate those pictures in a way that represents ingenuity of the wedding photojournalist. As a privileged member of AG|WPJA, I have what it takes to deliver wedding photographs that’ll forever keep your wedding memories alive.
While it’s an honour to represent such an esteemed organisation, at the same time, it is an onerous responsibility that I like to discharge to the best of my abilities.
Importance of Selecting a Professional Wedding Photographer
The importance of wedding photography is a question that should be asked from a couple whose wedding memories were ruined by an
unprofessional, untrained wedding photographer who quite simply was not up to the job. The most memorable day in the lives of the couples could easily end up being the most disastrous one if the wedding photographer happens to be a novice or unprofessional.
Though there is no dearth of wedding photographers in London you cannot be complacent while scouting for a qualified and professional wedding photographer. Remember you are entrusting your most precious day to someone who is expected to capture those everlasting moments and eternalise them by using his or her own style of photography.
The importance of wedding photography can be understood from the fact that a wedding itself is a landmark event in your life. For most people, a wedding is once-in-a-lifetime event, which overshadows every other event in your life. It is a time when you decide to live the rest of your life with the one you love.
The joy of getting married to your loved one is unparalleled. The feeling is unique, the moment is unique, and the ceremonies associated with the event are unique!
So, shouldn’t you ensure that such an important day of your life becomes a momentous one by capturing all its hues in different frames?
It’s here that the services of an experienced wedding photographer can go a long way in transforming an ordinary wedding day into an unforgettable event.
It’s a common mistake that most wedding photographers commit. They cover the bride and the groom so much that the guests are almost ignored.
The entire purpose of wedding photographs can be lost by such an unprofessional wedding photography approach. After all, what’s the importance of wedding photography to a couple? It’s the nostalgia that the pictures will bring when they see them five years, ten years hence. They want to relive those precious moments just by looking at those pictures. And it can’t be achieved by ignoring other guests and family members who graced the occasion by their presence.
A truly professional wedding photographer will give due coverage to everyone – the bride, the groom, the family members, the ceremonies, the momentous events, and of course, the ambience that you’ve selected so thoughtfully for your special day.
What to look for in a wedding photographer?
Finally, you’ve decided to settle down and get married to the one who enjoys ‘special’ status in your life. Now, comes the difficult part – planning for the most important day of your life. Right from selecting the venue to sending the invites to the guests, the checklist is long. But have you ever wondered how to preserve the memories of your wedding? It’s here that the role of a professional wedding photographer who can offer some great wedding photography becomes pivotal.
Undoubtedly, you’ll have plenty of choices before zeroing in on your perfect wedding photographer in London. But the million-pound question is: what to look for in a wedding photographer in order to ensure that your special day is turned into a memorable one? Especially in a big city like London, where you are pampered for choices, it could become tricky to select a London wedding photographer that has the talent and expertise to make your wedding an everlasting event. Therefore, it is not a bad idea to spend some time scouting for the best wedding photographers in town. References from other brides and grooms are a good starting point.
In order to ensure great wedding photography for your special day, the first question to ask from the wedding photographer is definitely not his fees, but the results he can guarantee. A cheap London wedding photographer may save you some money, but will deliver disappointing results that can ruin your memories forever. A good wedding photographer in London will never compromise on the quality of output he can deliver. Make sure you check the wedding photographers portfolio and look for recent weddings.
The next step is to get a bit technical and ask about the quality and comparison analysis of the equipment they will be using to cover your big day. A high resolution digital camera is a given in modern times for a professional wedding photographer in London. The cameras with films are out-of-date and have extremely limited capabilities. You must also ask for different styles of wedding photography they offer, their benefits and comparisons with other styles. For instance, special wedding occasions are glorified by specific style of photography, like posed shots for profiling, spontaneous shots during meal time, black and white touch to give nostalgic feeling to some photos. You must ask if the photographer is qualified , do they have insurance to protect you from any mishaps, do they have a back up in case of illness.
The key to selecting an ideal wedding photographer in London is to ask plenty of questions about the exact nature and scope of services they are offering in the contract. The idea is to save yourself from the unpleasant surprises at the time of your wedding or while collecting the proofs. You must be absolutely sure of what to expect from the photographer and communicate your requirements to him in no uncertain terms.
The personality of wedding photographer should be pleasing since you and your esteemed guests will be spending a full day with him, and don’t want to end up in the company of a ‘difficult’ personality when you are enjoying the special day of your life.
Professionalism, efficiency, and the quality of being organised are some of the other important characteristics in a London wedding photographer you must look for while finding answers to the vital question – what to look for in a wedding photographer?
Happy New Year | Iain Gomes | London Wedding Photographer
Happy New Year from Iain Gomes
So with 2010 behind us we have a bright New Year to look forward to. I would like to thank all of my clients from 2010 for their support and trust in me to document their wedding day. We had a blast.
As a qualified London Wedding Photographer based in Eltham, competition is huge and growing still… with digital cameras now available to the masses so does the idea that anyone can become a wedding photographer. In a way I guess anyone can, but and it is a big BUT there is a difference between someone who can take wedding photos and someone that can REALLY take wedding photos.
There are so many difference styles of wedding photography from the true photo journalistic (PJ) approach to a more formal posed set up. I believe there is a market for all types and their are some awesome photographers specialising in each. I am more towards the PJ style but also am happy to set up some shots.
Anyway if you are getting married in 2011 (or beyond) please get in touch. Looking for a cool date to get married then how about 9/10/11
Happy New Year xxx
LSWPP – Licentiate of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers
On Satureday 17th Dec I was confirmed as a Licentiate of the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (LSWPP). So what does this mean??? Well I am now officially recognised as a qualified member of the society. A licentiate is granted following a successful submission of a panel of 20 wedding images. These images are then judged by two highly qualified photographers of the SWPP as being of a professional standard, demonstrating an ability to create images of excellence.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my clients whose images I used to form the successful panel. These images are shown here.
Christmas Decorations
Christmas Tree Decoration
A strange title for this blog I am sure you will agree but yes what Mrs G is wearing technically is a christmas tree decoration. Until today I had no idea they made masks for christmas trees, even now I don’t know why they do. However I do think it looks better on Mrs G than the tree, what do you think?
